Pearl Jam – Live at the Aladdin, Las Vegas
In 1993, Pearl Jam was the live act to see. Vs. had shattered the record for most records sold in the first week of sales (over 900,000 in the first five days), Ten was still in the top 20 (it would remain in the top 50 until 1995), and they were already gaining a reputation as the best live act in music. Frenetic on-stage energy, the incredible lyrics and voice of Eddie Vedder, and the guitar work of Mike McCready and Stone Gossard (the combo were nicknamed “The Four-Armed Monster” in Rolling Stone’s 2007 list of “The Ten New Guitar Gods”) drew sellout crowds all over the nation.
In this show, one of the last before their famous boycott of Ticketmaster (undertaken in an attempt to keep concert prices low for all fans), they’re at the top of their early ’90s game. The set closes with a haunting duet performance of Vedder and Victoria Williams singing Williams’s classic “Crazy Mary.”
